•the opportunities on the horizon for the voluntary and community sector
•the role of community organisers
•the localism agenda
•how government plans are developing to work together with voluntary sector bodies in these arenas

Many community groups and local charities are worried about their future and role within society, “are we still wanted and how do we fit in?”. Francis Maude will respond to some of these fears and clarify future opportunities.

The evening’s programme will also allow for questions from the floor.

An evening debate with Iain Duncan Smith MP (Secretary of State for Work and Pensions).

Iain Duncan Smith MP claims Britain’s current benefits system is ‘broken’, unaffordable and has been ‘trapping’ poor people in poverty. He believes his new Welfare Reform Bill will radically simplify the benefits system, and in doing so, combat worklessness and poverty by incentivising people to get back to work.

Hosted by Charities Parliament and Faithworks together with Care, Ekklesia, the Evangelical Alliance, the Liberal Democrat Christian Forum and Livability, the event also aims to encourage and resource churches and church leaders to engage with the Alternative Vote Referendum and run their own hustings.
